I have two boys. One is nearly 12 and the other is 13. I see evidence every day of them leaving behind boyhood and nearing the teen experience before manhood. I am proud of who they are but I know that no one is safe from the temptations of this world. So, I have put together a week of verses and along with 7 prayers for your son.
I hope that as you read these verses that the Lord inspires you to pray fervently that your son would be a man after God’s own heart and that the world will not pull him away from the goodness of the Lord. I would love to pray along side you. Please feel free to comment at the end if you would like prayers for your son.
7 Scriptures and Prayers to Pray Over Your Son
Day 1-Prayer for Him to Pursue Righteousness
So flee youthful passions and pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace, along with those who call on the Lord from a pure heart.
2 Timothy 2:22
Lord, I pray that my boys will put you first. I ask Lord that you will guard their hearts so that they will flee temptations and they will pursue your righteousness, faith, love, and peace with all of their hearts, minds, souls, and strength. Give them clean hands and pure hearts. Amen!!
Day 2-Prayer for Purity
How can a young man keep his way pure? By guarding it according to your word.
Psalm 119:9
God, I pray my sons will revere your word as the final say. I pray that they will hide the truths in the hearts so that they will know your will and way. I pray that they will seek to keep their ways pure by being a life long students of your word and allowing it to correct and teach them. Amen.
Day 3-Prayers for Your Son to Be Humble
Likewise, you who are younger, be subject to the elders. Clothe yourselves, all of you, with humility toward one another, for “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.”
1 Peter 5:5
Lord, I ask for my boys to have hearts of humility. I pray that they will think of others before themselves. I pray that they will humble themselves under your mighty hand so that they will experience your grace and not be puffed with pride. Grant them to be wise to listen to the counsel of their elders and trust in your word. Amen.
Day 4-Prayer to Stay away from Worthless Things
Turn my eyes from looking at worthless things; and give me life in your ways.
Psalm 119:37
God, I ask that my boys will turn their eyes from worthless things, from vain ambitions, and worldly pursuits. I pray that they will seek first your kingdom and your righteousness. Give them a full, abundant life in your ways so that they may find contentment with You alone. Amen.
Day 5-Prayer for Them to Receive Instruction
Hear, my son, your father’s instruction, and forsake not your mother’s teaching, for they are a graceful garland for your head and pendants for your neck.
Proverbs 1:8-9
Lord, help us as parents to remain faithful to teaching our boys the truth of your word. May we discipline, love, and give thanks according to your will. I pray that they will grow in wisdom and knowledge and never depart from the truths of the gospel that have been instilled in them from birth. Amen.
Day 6-Prayer for Them to Praise God
Remember also your Creator in the days of your youth, before the evil days come and the years draw near of which you will say, “I have no pleasure in them.”
Ecclesiastes 12:1
God, with everything they have, we ask that our young men will praise you as the Creator, the Almighty, One True God. We ask that you will protect their hearts from pride, evil, and lies. We ask that they will draw near you and thank you for every good gift and ask you daily for your will to be done. Amen.
Day 7-Prayer for Them to Stand Firm
Be watchful, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong. Let all that you do be done in love.
1 Corinthians 16:13-14
Heavenly Father, give our young men strength. Guide them in your word so that they may be watchful of the schemes of Satan. We pray that they will be strong, stand firm, and act like godly men. but that all of their actions are done in love. May they be bold and courageous in your awesome name! Amen.

Yes, absolutely!! For all of the young men in our lives! Amen.🙂❤
I love your focus. Many are the times we wait to start praying for our kids when hell breaks loose. May God hear your prayers. I will follow suit as I have an 11-year-old boy.
Praying along side you for your boy Judith! ❤
I love these prayers! I know whether you raise a son or a daughter you have a whole set of “issues” you feel burdened to pray for, but our sons are to be the human head of their home and need so much strength from God. Plus the devil and world throws so much garbage at them to try to bring them down starting at a young age. Thank you for acting on this by writing prayers to help these mama (and daddy) hearts!
Amen, so true! Praying that it is just a starting point for parents to pray fervently for their young men!❤
Love this! I have two boys and appreciate the prayers you have shared. Our young men need our prayers!

I love this! As a mother of two preteen boys, I am planning to use this with them and in prayer. Thank you!
My pleasure. Praying along side you for your boys.
Beautiful! I have three sons, grown men now. I frequently pray Ephesians 3:14-19 for them: “For this reason I bow my knees before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth is named, that according to the riches of his glory he may grant you to be strengthened with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith—that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may have strength to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.”
Wonderful. I love Paul’s prayer in Ephesians 3!!♥️ Thanks for sharing.
