It’s a yearly tradition on A Child Shall Lead Them Blog! I share for free the countdown to Christmas that I have created for my own family to keep our month focused on Christ. This year we are Unwrapping the gifts of Christmas. Each day, there is a scripture to read along with a gift that God blessed us with through revealing His Son, Jesus Christ, to the world.
The simplicity of these countdowns is all you have to do is print, cut, and put them up somewhere. They allow you to guide the discussion each day with your family to keep an attitude of praise for what the Christmas season is meant to represent. Plus, they double as a countdown to Christmas Day!

Unwrapping the Gifts of Christmas Guide
The idea is simple, each day your family will discuss a gift that we were given through God sending Jesus Christ into the world to die for our sins and conquer death. The gift and scripture are listed and below I have given some simple questions to ask along side the reading and some prayer resources.
How to Display the Gifts of Christmas Printable
This is how our family has chosen to display our gifts of Christmas. My girls made the tree and we taped the gifts on it to take one out each day. In the past, I have numbered the days but for these, you can do them in any order you wish except Christmas Day, #25. It is numbered and bigger than the others.

Some other ideas of how to display or use them:
- String them up like a decor banner with the biggest in the middle and take one down each day.
- Hide them around the Christmas tree branches for the kids to find each day.
- Put a present box with a lid under the tree, and put one in for the kids to open each day. (This was my second choice, but my youngest likes to see them dwindle as a countdown to Christmas.)
Questions for Your Daily Gifts of Christmas Discussion
These are general questions that you can use each day to help dive further into how God provided so many gifts to us through Jesus Christ His son:
- Why do you think God give us this gift?
- How can we use this gift to serve God?
- How can we use this gift to serve others?
- Who in your life can you pray for to have this gift?
Diving a little Deeper:
If you have older kids, you might consider having them look up the word in a Bible dictionary or Bible concordance to define and and find more scriptures on the gift.
Prayer Guides for Christmas Season
I would suggest that you end each lesson with a prayer of thanksgiving to God for the particular gift that Jesus has given to us along with praying for some one else to receive the gift this Christmas.
I would like to share with you some prayer guides that could accompany this study as well:
- Christmas Prayers and Blessings
- Short Prayers for Children to Say
- Prayers in the New Testament You Can Pray
- Christmas Prayers for Missionaries
