Scriptures to Encourage Graduates

My second oldest is graduating high school this year. It is unreal to me that I will have soon graduated two in a row especially since I will be down to 2 on homeschool days!

We were talking the other day about his favorite scriptures and so I decided to put together some encouraging scriptures for graduates. This includes a collaboration between me and my son so it’s super special to me.

Also, I have included a short devotion at the end over Psalm 37:3-5. This can be shared as a note to the graduate, or as a charge at a graduation party.

Psalm 37:3-5 Short Devotion for Graduates

Here’s a short, but powerful devotion that works well for a graduation card, ceremony, or quiet reflection for the graduate.

“Trust in the Lord and do good;
dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture.
Take delight in the Lord,
and he will give you the desires of your heart.
Commit your way to the Lord;
trust in him and he will do this.”
– Psalm 37:3-5

Graduation marks both an ending and a beginning. Plans are forming, doors are opening, and the future feels wide. In Psalm 37:3–5, God gives simple but steady guidance for moments just like this.

First, “Trust in the Lord and do good.” Before titles, careers, or success, God calls you to trust Him and live faithfully right where you are. Obedience always comes before outcomes.

Next, “Delight yourself in the Lord.” As you make Him your joy, He shapes your desires to match His purposes. When your heart is anchored in Him, your direction becomes clearer.

Finally, “Commit your way to the Lord.” Graduation doesn’t require having everything figured out—only placing your plans in God’s hands. When you trust Him fully, He promises to act.

As you step forward, let trust, delight, and commitment guide your journey. God is already at work in what’s ahead and nothing surprises Him. He longs for you to stay near and let Him lead.
