Free, Short Easter Devotions

I think it’s super important that we take time to prepare out hearts for Easter. Don’t get me wrong, our hearts should always be right before God, but Easter is a special time of renewal, remembrance, and celebrating resurrection.

My prayer is that these devotions will help you focus on the reason we celebrate Easter and all the while, praising our Savior for His mercy and grace on the cross. Ultimately, may we recenter on a Living, Holy King who conquered death.

Where Can You Read About Easter in the Bible?

Easter is the celebration of Jesus’ death, burial, and resurrection. While the actual accounts are found in the gospels, Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John, you can find Easter all through the Bible.

Easter in the Old Testament

This is not an exhaustive list. God promised the Messiah in Gen. 3 and from there are over 450 prophesies of Jesus in the OT. These are just some that point to Easter. I encourage you to dig in for yourself.

  • Psalm 22
  • Psalm 72
  • Psalm 118
  • Isaiah 53
  • Hosea 5:14-6:2

Easter in the New Testament

As I mentioned, you can read the actual accounts of the Easter story in the gospels listed first but there are other places that are worth mentioning that help us understand Easter.

  • Matthew 26-28
  • Mark 14-16
  • Luke 22-24
  • John 12-20
  • 1 Corinthians 15
  • 2 Corinthians 5
  • Romans 5-8
