Scriptures for the Fall Season

I have divided these by topic just because it helps us see how they fit in the fall season. Fall is traditionally a time for harvest, rest, and thanksgiving in the bounty that God has given so those are the major themes you will see here.

Harvest

Fall reminds us that God keeps His promises!

“As long as the earth endures, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night will never cease.” Genesis 8:22 NIV

Fall reminds us that God blesses us!

The land yields its harvest; God, our God, blesses us. Psalm 67:6 NIV

Psalm 67:6 NIV

Fall reminds us that God is good!

The Lord will indeed give what is good, and our land will yield its harvest. Psalm 85:12 NIV

Fall reminds us the harvest is plentiful!

Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.” Matthew 9:37-38 NIV

Fall reminds us not to give up!

Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Galatians 6:9 NIV

Galatians 6:9 NIV

Rest

Fall reminds us that God gives us rest. The leaves fall and the land starts to rest. He has also given rest to His people.

Six days you shall labor, but on the seventh day you shall rest; even during the plowing season and harvest you must rest. Exodus 34:21 NIV

Rest restores our hope.

Yes, my soul, find rest in God; my hope comes from him. Psalm 62:5 NIV

Psalm 62:5 NIV

Rest is an invitation to be with Jesus.

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.  Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” Matthew 11:28-30 NIV

Rest does not mean give up but helps us keep going.

He who gathers crops in summer is a prudent son, but he who sleeps during harvest is a disgraceful son. Proverbs 10:5 NIV

Rest is a promise of our future in heaven.

There remains, then, a Sabbath-rest for the people of God; for anyone who enters God’s rest also rests from their works, just as God did from his. Let us, therefore, make every effort to enter that rest, so that no one will perish by following their example of disobedience. Hebrews 4:9-11 NIV

Matthew 11:28 NIV

Thanksgiving

Fall is a season that reminds us that we have been blessed so much. We should give thanks to God for His abundant provision.

Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name. Psalm 100:4 NIV

Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever. 1 Chronicles 16:34 NIV

1 Chronicles 16:34 NIV

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. Philippians 4:6 NIV

Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 NIV

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 NIV

And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. Colossians 3:17 NIV

We give thanks to you, Lord God Almighty, the One who is and who was, because you have taken your great power and have begun to reign. Revelation 11:17 NIV
