Continuous creation is a core doctrine that helps uphold a complete Christian worldview. It’s a very important concept for us to understand and to pass along to our children in a world that continually opposes intelligent design and the truth of the Bible.
Continuous creation states that God is both the Creator and Sustainer of all that exists. He is an active King in every aspect of the universe, from the smallest atomic structures to large galaxies light years away.
The doctrine of continuous creation reminds us that God didn’t just create the world and step away—He continually sustains, renews, and actively works within His creation. His creative power is not just something in the past; it is ongoing in the present.
That’s exactly what we see in Isaiah 43:14-21.
God points back to the Exodus—a defining moment of creation-like power, where He made a way through the sea. But then He says something surprising: “Do not remember the former things… I am doing a new thing.”
Why? Because God’s creative work didn’t stop there. He was still working in the lives of His people then and He’s still working now.
God Our Creator
This is what the Lord says—
your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel:
“For your sake I will send to Babylon
and bring down as fugitives all the Babylonians,
in the ships in which they took pride.
15 I am the Lord, your Holy One,
Israel’s Creator, your King.”
16 This is what the Lord says—
he who made a way through the sea,
a path through the mighty waters,
17 who drew out the chariots and horses,
the army and reinforcements together,
and they lay there, never to rise again,
extinguished, snuffed out like a wick:
18 “Forget the former things;
do not dwell on the past.
19 See, I am doing a new thing!
Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?
I am making a way in the wilderness
and streams in the wasteland.
20 The wild animals honor me,
the jackals and the owls,
because I provide water in the wilderness
and streams in the wasteland,
to give drink to my people, my chosen,
21 the people I formed for myself
that they may proclaim my praise.
-Isaiah 43:14-21
God identifies Himself in verse 15 as “Israel’s Creator”. In verse 21, He refers to them as “the people I formed for myself.”
We know from Genesis 1 that God is the Creator of all living things. He made man kind in His own image. He blessed them to be fruitful and multiply.
Fast forward to Genesis 12 and we see God promise to make Abraham into a great nation. He fulfills His promise as we see His blessings poured out on Abraham’s descendants. His grandson, Jacob, is renamed Israel and father’s the sons who become the heads of the 12 tribes of Israel.
In all of this, God the Creator is protecting and positioning a nation to be His chosen people. He not only physically created their bodies, but He is strategically drawing together a nation.
He tells again and again of making new ways, wonders, and works among His people that they will know Him and serve Him. God is spiritually creating a group of people who will proclaim His praise. (v. 21)

How God Is Always Creating
Then, now, and some day we see God working to make “all things new.” Being mindful of God not just as the Creator from the beginning, but a Creator who is actively creating gives us a proper, humble view of ourselves.
1. God Sustains and Upholds Creation
In the opening lines of this text, God reminds them of the Exodus—making a path through the sea where He defeated an impossible enemy (Egypt). God controls the seas because He made the seas. He protect His people because He made them for His glory.
In verse 20, God tells His people that even the wild animals honor Him because He provides water for them to drink.
- Hebrews 1:3 – “He upholds the universe by the word of His power.”
- Colossians 1:16–17 – “In Him all things hold together.”
- Acts 17:28 – “In Him we live and move and have our being.”
Truth:
Creation continues because God actively sustains it.
2. God Is Always Working
“Forget the former things, do not dwell in the past” God says. Why after He reminded them of the past, did He call them to forget?
God does not want them to mourn their current situation thinking that God only worked in the past but has forgotten them now. Yes, He is the same God that delivered them from Egypt. But, thats not all He can or will do! He wants them to realize that even if they can’t see it, He is working!
We often get stuck: In past victories (“Those glory days are over”) or past failures (“I messed up too much”). God says: Don’t live there. Open your eyes, I am always at work!
- John 5:17 – “My Father is working until now, and I am working.”
- Psalm 121:4 – “He who keeps Israel will neither slumber nor sleep.”
Truth:
God never stops working—His activity didn’t end at creation.
3. God Makes Us New (Spiritual Creation)
When God says, “I am doing a new thing,”
He is showing that His creative power is active right now:
- Wilderness → becomes a pathway
- Desert → becomes a river
- Broken people → become worshipers
Once we die to self and live for Christ, we are a new creation. This miracle of Christ in us is God’s creation power on display as He gives us a new heart and spirit.
- 2 Corinthians 5:17 – “If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation.”
- Ephesians 2:10 – “We are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus.”
- Ezekiel 36:26 – “I will give you a new heart and a new spirit.”
Truth:
Salvation is an act of new creation.

4. God Is Actively Transforming Us
Day after day, God is sanctifying us by truth to make us more and more like Jesus. Salvation is the beginning of a beautiful transformation as we grow, learn, and become more faithful servants. We can look back and see how far we’ve progressed in our Christian walk to remind us how active the Lord has been in His regenerating work in His children.
- Philippians 1:6 – “He who began a good work in you will bring it to completion.”
- 2 Corinthians 4:16 – “Inner self is being renewed day by day.”
Truth:
God’s creative work in us is ongoing—not finished yet.
5. God Will Restore Creation
Someday, God will completely restore all of creation to its original beauty and glory. No longer will sin, darkness, or chaos reign. Christ will return and there will be a new heaven and a new earth. All of us who know Him will be glorified into a heavenly creation!
- Romans 8:21 – “Creation itself will be liberated from its bondage to decay and brought into the freedom and glory of the children of God.”
- Revelation 21:5 – “Behold, I am making all things new.”
- Philippians 3:20-21-“But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ, who, by the power that enables him to bring everything under his control, will transform our lowly bodies so that they will be like his glorious body.”
Truth:
Continuous creation leads to complete restoration.
Continuous Creation Prayer and Questions

Your story is not finished.
Your past is not final.
God is still at work.
