There are a lot of sick people in the world. I have been in the hospital and had surgery myself. Many of these who are sick are children. I believe very much in healing, I have seen it happen, once, to a baby who is now a beautiful Christian girl. Not everyone is healed here on this earth.
I also know that we don’t always have all the answers but He does and sometimes, He just has to take someone to heaven. While that hurts and is very sad, we can still believe He heals, and this is one of my favorite stories, that is why I chose it. It is full of wisdom, Hebrew customs and double promises. I hope it makes our faith strong.
Background on Jarius’ Daughter
You may or may not have heard this story before, it is in Mark 5 and Luke 8. Jesus was going through the streets and a woman who had been very sick for twelve years came and touched the hem of His garment and was healed. It would have been against the law for to go out but she was determined to see Jesus along with many others.
This girl in does not have her name mentioned in the Bible, but it does say that she was sick and that she was twelve years old. The woman Jesus healed outside had been sick this girl’s whole life, her name is not given either. But you can be sure that He knows all of our names.
Her father was a ruler of the synagogue. And his name was Jairus. Hebrew has no j’s so it sounds like a y. Being a very high ranking official, he might not have thought Jesus was the Messiah but Jarius wanted his daughter healed.
Story of Jarius’ Daughter Being Healed
Jesus to come and see her, having seen the woman healed after Jesus had crossed the lake from Galilee. But while He was still outside in the crowd and waiting for Jesus, his servants came and said that she had died, but the Lord told him not to be afraid, to only believe, and went to his house.
He put out all the people who were crying, only her mother and father, Peter, James and John remained with Him. Jairus had wrapped her in his prayer shawl as was the custom, the “talit ” as it is called was worn over the head and was long enough to go the robe.
It is very likely that His was the ” garment ” that the woman touched, but it was the power of the Holy Spirit in Jesus that healed her and told the little girl to get up, when He took her hand.
” Talitha cumi. ” is what He said, and that is what it means: “Maiden (or girl), arise”. Some translations use daughter of my child. And the girl woke up, Jesus gave her life back.
Jarius’ daughter was healed. He told her mother to feed her, and just like our mothers ( and fathers ) feed us, so are His words and these stories, food for our spirit.
Do you know someone who is very sick or maybe, you are or have been and Jesus made you well? Sometimes, bad things happen but we can always believe that He loves us and is the healer.
It is important to believe that, even if you know someone who has had to go to heaven. It is also important to pray for our friends and families, teachers and schools. There are many verses to pray.
Verses about Healing in the Bible
Here are a few verses you can pray about healing. You might even have a scarf or comfy blanket to pray under. You could even pretend to be people from the Bible days who are following Jesus. Remember, it was not the garment that healed them but the one wearing it, Jesus.
Memory verse: “He sent His word and healed them.” Psalm 107:20
John 1 calls Jesus the Word. Jesus heals.
- I am the Lord who heals you. Exodus 15:26
- I have heard your prayer and seen your tears and I will heal you. 2 Kings 20:5
- He heals the brokenhearted. Psalm 17:3
- Lord, my God, I called to you for help and you healed me. Psalm 30:2
- A merry heart does good like a medicine. Proverbs 17:22
- Heal me, LORD, and I will be healed; save me and I will be saved, for you are the one I praise. Jeremiah 17:14
- I will restore health to you and heal your wounds says the Lord. Jeremiah 30:17
- He keeps me in perfect peace when my mind is on Him. Isaiah 26:3
- The centurion answered, “Lord, I am not worthy to have You come under my roof. But just say the word, and my servant will be healed. Matthew 8:8
- Take heart daughter, your faith has made you well. Matthew 9:22
